Every science journalist has a catalog of crimes committed by science press officers. Science PIOs may be no more or less prone to committing the kinds of sins that drive journalists crazy, but anecdotal evidence of naïve, venal and dumb acts of public information abound. This workshop, which includes veteran science press officers and a top science journalist, is intended to identify the behaviors and acts that get a science press officer in hot water. In addition to detailing public information sins mortal and venal, the panel will provide a lesson in how to avoid such behaviors through savvy practice.
